SemiColonWeb designs and builds website products. Canvas is its main one, and the WordPress theme and the Canvas Core plugin are both published under the studio name. The same team decides what goes into a release, writes the documentation and maintains the demo catalogue.
That matters for a theme you plan to keep. Every block, every Theme Option and every demo comes from one codebase with one roadmap, so an update moves the whole product forward at once.
Which Canvas this is
Several products have carried the name. Canvas on canvaswp.com is the WordPress theme from SemiColonWeb, the makers of the Canvas HTML template on ThemeForest, and it is sold through CanvasWP. It is unrelated to the retired WooThemes Canvas theme and to the free Canvas plugin on WordPress.org, and it is not a page builder. The demos, blocks and plans on this site belong to this theme alone.

Canvas started as an HTML template
Canvas began life on ThemeForest as a multipurpose HTML template. The WordPress theme brings that design system, its demos and its components to the block editor.
The WordPress version was rebuilt, layout by layout. Everything the HTML template offered is a real Gutenberg block with a settings panel behind it, so the design you recognise is now content you edit. What carries over from Canvas HTML to WordPress goes through it element by element.

Canvas ships as a WordPress theme with a companion plugin. Everything below is a step in how a release gets made, and each one has to pass before the release goes out.
- A WordPress theme plus a companion plugin. The theme holds templates, template parts and style variations; the plugin holds the block library, the builders and the demo importer. Nothing depends on a page builder.
- Every demo is rebuilt from its design. A demo is not a screenshot with text over it. Each one is reconstructed as blocks and then compared in a real browser against the original design, element by element, until the rendered geometry matches.
- Everything a visitor sees is editable. Text and links, images and icons, colour, size, behaviour: all of it is reachable from a settings panel. If a demo needs something a block cannot express, the block gains the setting and the page stays free of raw HTML.
- Documentation is generated from the shipped code. The 382 articles and 313 screenshots are produced from the blocks and options that actually ship, so a renamed field cannot leave a stale page behind.
- This website is audited too. The marketing site you are reading is checked for accessibility at desktop, tablet and phone widths, with the same standard we hold the demos to.

WordPress-native first
If WordPress solves it, Canvas uses it. Templates are block templates, styles flow through theme.json, and your content stays standard block markup that another theme can read.
One licence includes everything
Every plan ships every block, pattern, template and demo. Plans differ only by how many sites you activate, your monthly AI credits and whether you can activate a multisite network.
Your site never breaks
If a licence lapses, the front end keeps rendering exactly as it did. Updates, demo imports, AI and premium editing pause until you renew. Nothing is hidden from your visitors.
No proprietary editor
There is no separate builder to learn or to lose. You edit in the block editor and the Site Editor that WordPress ships, so the skills and the content both travel with you.
