GenerateBlocks gives you container, grid, text, button, headline and query. Everything else is yours to assemble. Canvas ships sliders, galleries, portfolios, events, counters and pricing tables, plus forms, 22 WooCommerce blocks and 14 header blocks. Every one has a settings panel, so none of it needs custom CSS.
A demo library you can actually browse
The GeneratePress site library is presented through a video, so you cannot see the 80 designs before you buy. Every one of the 80 Canvas demos has a preview image, a category, a page count and a live preview link, and each one is a complete website, inner pages included.
Chrome and options without a second purchase
Canvas ships builders for the header, the footer, the top bar, the mega menu, the hero, the slider and the page title, plus 460 options in 22 sections, in every plan. GeneratePress puts its Theme Builder behind GP Premium and its patterns behind GenerateBlocks Pro, which is why the $149 bundle exists.
AI text and images in the licence
Canvas generates and rewrites copy and generates images into your media library from inside the editor, with credits in every plan. GeneratePress publishes no AI feature, so that work goes to a separate tool.

7.5kb of page weight over two HTTP requests with zero dependencies is falsifiable, which is why the whole category copies it. Canvas publishes its method instead: 35 optimisations and per-block asset loading. On a bare page GeneratePress will win.

Even the $59 GP Premium licence covers up to 500 sites, and the $149 bundle covers the same. Canvas covers 3, 10 or 100. If you manage a large portfolio of small sites, that is a straightforward win for them.

Is Canvas as fast as GeneratePress?
Canvas is a bigger product than GeneratePress, which publishes a bare-theme figure of 7.5kb over two HTTP requests and earned its reputation honestly. A page that renders a slider, a portfolio grid and a form will weigh more than an unstyled one, whichever theme draws it. What Canvas publishes is the method: 35 switchable optimisations and per-block asset loading, so a page only loads assets for the blocks it renders. The performance page lists all of them, and the honest advice is to measure both on your own content.
How many blocks does each one give me?
Canvas ships 258 blocks in 10 families, and GenerateBlocks ships six: container, grid, text, button, headline and query. That is a deliberate design, and with 200+ patterns it covers a great deal of layout. The Canvas set includes sliders, portfolios, events, forms, pricing tables, counters and 22 WooCommerce blocks, so more of the design comes built.
Does Canvas need a second plugin the way GP Premium does?
No, Canvas Core is part of the licence and is installed by the Setup Wizard alongside the theme, and every plan includes all of it. GeneratePress splits its product into GP Premium, GenerateBlocks Pro and GenerateCloud, which is why the bundle exists at $149 a year.
How many websites does each licence cover?
Canvas covers 3, 10 or 100 websites, plus a multisite network on Agency, with staging copies free. GeneratePress covers up to 500 websites on every paid product, which is the most generous limit in this comparison after Divi. If you manage hundreds of sites, GeneratePress is the cheaper seat.
What happens when each licence expires?
Canvas renders but freezes: every premium block keeps rendering for visitors, and updates, demo imports, AI and premium block editing pause until you renew. GeneratePress says download access to the files stops when a key expires; the site itself keeps working. Both are published, and ours sits on the pricing page.
