Canvas ships 258 blocks in 10 families and 183 patterns as part of the theme and its plugin. Astra publishes no block count for the theme itself: its block library is Spectra, a separate product bundled from the Essential Toolkit up, so the answer to "how many blocks do I get" depends on which plan you bought.
Header and footer in the block editor
The Astra Header Footer Builder is a Customizer tool, and the mega menu and sticky header are Pro features. Canvas builds headers, footers, top bars, mega menus, side panels and page titles as records made of 14 header blocks, in the same editor as the rest of the site, on every plan.
Renewal at the price you first paid
Astra prints its renewals on the card, which is more honest than most: $99 renews at $149, $199 at $299, $279 at $429. Canvas renews at the price on your first invoice, and every plan includes every block, pattern and demo, so there is nothing left to upsell you.
Each demo is a whole site with a page count
Each of the 80 Canvas demos is a whole site with inner pages, menus, forms, real content types and a page count on the card, previewable live. Astra shows 387 templates listed 12 at a time, with no filters on the listing and no way to tell how complete any single one is.

Astra is free on WordPress.org with 1+ million active installations and 4.9 stars from 6,518 reviews. Build a whole site on it before paying anything, and hire from a large pool of people who know it well. Canvas has no free edition, and no install base of that size to point at.

Astra publishes a risk-free 14-day guarantee, no questions asked, on the pricing page and the home page. Canvas gives 7 days on a first purchase without asking you to open a support ticket, but the window is shorter and we would rather print that than hide it.
A bundle far wider than a theme
The toolkits add Spectra Pro, Ultimate Addons for Elementor, SureForms, ZipWP site generation, hosted websites, a free domain for a year, blueprints and sandboxes, and cover up to 1,000 sites. Canvas covers 100 sites and a multisite network, and sells no hosting.
Objection handling in public
Astra answers roughly 45 questions in its FAQ, including the awkward ones: staging sites count towards your limit, Elementor Pro is not included, what lifetime really covers and what stops when you do not renew. That is a standard worth copying, and we have.

Moving a website from Astra to Canvas
This is one of the easier moves in this comparison, because Astra keeps your content in WordPress. The design is what you rebuild.
What carries over
- Posts, pages, media, categories, tags, users and menus, exactly as WordPress stores them.
- Your WooCommerce store: products, variations, orders, customers and their history.
- Sections built with Spectra, which keep rendering while the free Spectra plugin stays installed.
- Anything written in the block editor, which opens in Canvas unchanged.
- Plugins you installed yourself, your domain, your host and your URLs.
What you rebuild
- Customizer design: colours, typography, container layout and blog layouts become Theme Options and style variations.
- Header and footer rows, which become records in the Canvas header builder.
- Astra Pro modules such as the sticky header, mega menu and post filters.
- Starter template designs, which have Canvas equivalents among the 80 demos and 183 patterns.
- White label settings, which Canvas offers as an account-level add-on.
On a small site there is a quicker route. Import the closest of the 80 demo websites and move your text and images into that.

Is there a free version of Canvas?
No, Canvas is sold as a yearly licence from $39 for 3 websites, and there is no free edition on WordPress.org. Astra's free theme is a genuine advantage if you want to start at zero and decide later. What Canvas gives you instead is everything in one purchase: no feature tier, no add-on to buy, and the same 258 blocks on every plan.
Does the Canvas price go up when it renews?
No, Canvas renews once a year at the price on your first invoice. Astra prints its renewal on the card, which is more honest than most, and the figure goes up: $99 renews at $149, $199 renews at $299, $279 renews at $429. Budget for the second year before you compare the first.
Do I need Spectra or another plugin to get blocks?
No: the 258 Canvas blocks are part of the product and are installed by the Setup Wizard along with the theme. Astra publishes no block count of its own and its block library is Spectra, which is bundled from the Essential Toolkit up, not with the Pro addon.
Can I keep my content when I move from Astra?
Yes, nearly all of it comes with you to Canvas. Astra does not hold your content hostage: posts, pages, media, menus, users and your WooCommerce store all stay put. Sections built with Spectra keep rendering while the free Spectra plugin is installed, and can be rebuilt with Canvas blocks at your own pace. What does not carry over is the Customizer design: header rows, colours, typography and Pro modules are rebuilt in Canvas.
How many websites does each licence cover?
Canvas covers 3, 10 or 100 websites, plus a whole multisite network on Agency, and a staging copy of a licensed site is free. Astra covers 3, 10 or 1,000 sites depending on plan, and its FAQ says staging and development sites count towards the limit. If you need a thousand seats, Astra has a plan for it and we do not.
Is Canvas an Astra alternative?
Yes, Canvas is an Astra alternative if you would rather decide once than assemble a bundle. Astra is free on WordPress.org and sells its toolkits above it; Canvas is paid from the first site and puts every block, pattern and demo in every plan, with renewals at the price you first paid.
